How did you come to be in Singapore?
I came to know about Singapore through my physiotherapy friends who were working here already. They convinced me to apply and interview with MOM. Things moved very fast and before I knew it I was leaving Ireland on a plane for Singapore! Over three years later and I’m still here.
What’s your favorite thing about Singapore?
I love the variety of people in the city. As Singapore is such a hub for Asia you never know who’ll meet. I enjoy meeting people from different countries.
Why did you choose physiotherapy as a career?
I was drawn to physiotherapy as a profession because you can really help people. We are very lucky that we can guide people back to health from injuries. It’s a very rewarding job.
What’s your area of interest?
It’s always hard to pick a particular area as I love treating all types of problems but I really enjoy treating lower back pain, hip/knee injuries and shoulder injuries. I am always interested and fascinated with how the body moves in response to pain and how to help patients move again pain free.
What gets you out of the bed in the morning?
A strong dose of caffeine and some good music will usually help me start my day off well. If I’m not starting too early in the morning I’ll get a work out in.
Do you play any sports?
I have played numerous sports over the years but soccer is my favorite. I play locally with the Singapore Gaelic Lions in the Cosmo League.
What else do you do in your free time?
Like most people in Singapore I enjoying travelling to other Asian countries. I like that you can have very different holidays within 2-3 hours from Singapore. Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia all have something unique to offer. I love to cook and have a strong interest in nutrition. Other than that I fill my time meeting with friends.
